RIBS is an independent musical concern from Raleigh, North Carolina, a quartet of scene vets whose previous groups and projects would require a separate appendix. Junk Dynasty Leaderboard is the first long-player and arrives via Third Uncle Records in May 2025. Across the album’s 8 tracks, the band warps and shapes the traditional guitar-bass-drums-vocals program into a singular vision. Anchored by angular and winding rhythmic workouts, dubbed-out textures and noisy excursions are
balanced with explosive group dynamics. Discursive lyrics are delivered in an equally cryptic and earnest sprechgesang-style, contemplating mandatory encores, weekend gambling, the forces of imperialism and unsolvable encounters with the night life. Building on post-progenitors like Pere Ubu and PiL, Ribs maintains a focused power infused with sonic experimentation, in the vein of Unwound or Trans Am. More modern analogues could include Protomartyr or Total Control. On the other side
of history’s end, the only thing that matters is staying one step ahead.
