Movie Loft presents “Lucky”

Movie Loft jingle-jangles in December with a screening of Lucky, the legendary Harry Dean Stanton’s final film performance. The 2017 directorial debut from John Carroll Lynch (the widely recognized actor in Fargo, and so much else), Lucky is a wry, hilarious, poignant and touching rumination on aging and passing.

Written specifically for Harry Dean Stanton, the story follows the 90-year-old Lucky as he roves around his small desert town, going through routines and medical appointments and smoking cigarettes. Along the way and days he encounters a host of characters (played by David Lynch, a tortoise older than Lucky, Tom Skerritt, Beth Grant and more), all the while considering mortality, enlightenment, love, loss and the wonders of life.

December’s screening will also coincide with the opening of a poster show by the estimable Matt Tauch, who has created incredible custom prints for many Movie Loft screenings since 2019 and will be showing them all across the way at the Ample Arts Gallery. Definitely plan on dropping by beforehand (or during the other open gallery hours)! Full details here.

Additionally, this screening will mark a transition as Movie Loft shifts into a Phase II, with the new year bringing expanded possibilities while keeping established sensibilities. Thinking beyond to also include documentary, performance and other experiments, yet keeping to the trinity of motion pictures, music and hot dogs.

FREE, donations appreciated! All moneys collected for this event will be given to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC. BYO or sample what’s on-hand. This will be an indoor screening. Doors, records and wieners at 7, movie to roll around 8:30. Cheers!
