Movie Loft presents “Rancho Deluxe”
Join Movie Loft in April for next convening of the year-long series The Harry Dean Stanton Appreciation Society! Roger Ebert once posited a “Stanton-Walsh” rule, which states that any movie that features M. Emmet Walsh (RIP) or Harry Dean Stanton (ditto), however briefly, cannot be all bad. We’ll put this rule to the test once a month in 2024, showing lesser-encountered movies that included the one and only HDS!
This month’s adventure takes us to Montana for the rollicking 1975 comedy/western Rancho Deluxe!
Written by Thomas McGuane and directed by Frank Perry (Mommie Dearest, Play It as It Lays, Doc, etc.), it’s a tale of two rustlers named Jack and Cecil (Jeff Bridges and Sam Waterston) who get on the bad side of a wealthy ranch owner. Harry Dean shows up as Curt, a lovesick ranch hand who also has an affinity for Pong. Also featuring Elizabeth Ashley, Slim Pickens and a soundtrack by Jimmy Buffett. Yee-haw!
FREE admission & popcorn, donations appreciated. Doors at 7:30, movie rolling at 8. BYO or sample what’s on-hand!
