Movie Loft presents “Venus in Furs”

Movie Loft pussyfoots into May with a screening of the sultry and surreal 1969 Euro horror thriller Venus in Furs! From Spanish exploitation and genre master Jess Franco comes this tale (a/k/a Paroxismus) inspired by a chat the director had with none other than Chet Baker.

Not a take on the Sacher-Masoch novella but rather a revenge saga about a jazz musician (James Darren) who discovers the corpse of a woman (Maria Rohm) in Istanbul, only for the deceased to follow-haunt him to Brazil. The cast also includes Barbara McNair as the trumpeter’s love interest in Rio, musician Manfred Mann and thee Klaus Kinski as a wealthy art dealer. A true psychedelic swirl of jazzbo delirium and a “Masterpiece of Supernatural Sex”!

Cool jazz sounds and 60s Brazilian stylings on the turntables starting at 7, along with wieners a-grilling. Movie to roll around 8.
