Durham’s new weirdo cinema/performance space, Skin and Bones Theater, teams with Durham’s Second Daughter Cinema to celebrate Art House Theater Day with a screening of Boots Riley’s explosive debut film, Sorry to Bother You!
In an alternate reality of present-day Oakland, telemarketer Cassius Green (LaKeith Stanfield) and his radical artist girlfriend Detroit (Tessa Thompson) struggle to make ends meet. Cassius finds himself in a macabre universe after he discovers a magical key that leads to material glory as a telemarketer. As Green’s career begins to take off, his friends and co-workers organize a protest against corporate oppression. Cassius soon falls under the spell of Steve Lift (Armie Hammer), a cocaine-snorting CEO who offers him a salary beyond his wildest dreams.
Second Daughter Cinema is a pop-up film series curated by Durham multi hyphenate Marcella Zigbuo Camara. It prioritizes presenting archival, indie, forgotten, and global majority-led films to the public.
Skin and Bones Theater is the new project of Shadowbox founders Alex Maness and Jim Haverkamp. Scheduled opening in September 2026!
